Technically, you have to consider both sides of what it is and can do.. for one thing your not likely to be able to play a behemoth sledge on this easily, as it takes 6 mana to put out and attach in one turn, unless your willing to leave it on the field first before attaching it, and that 6 mana could just as easily provide you with another big creature instead. The twin claws are a 4 cmc creature with a 2/4 double strike, where as a thoctar is a 5/4 for 3 cmc in the same colors, so I'd have to say thoctar wins here. I'd rather have a thoctar on the field, and enchant it with a runes of the deus, than try to get marisi twin claws in play, keep it alive, then fish out a behemoth sledge and have to play it for 6, after which it's still vulnerable to removal.

There's a use for everything in Magic. while this card is effectively a 4/4, it will also trigger Mentor of the Meek.
